Description
Archive Searcher is a fast archive-file searcher for Windows. It allows you to search for a file or a folder archived in ZIP, RAR, ACE, and CAB archives with ease, which is very useful if you have a lot of documents archived in WinZip, WinRar, and WinAce files and need to be able to search for specific documents. It's also useful when you're looking for a DLL from a set of CAB installation files. Just enter the names of documents that are archived in ZIP files and click the Search button, and you'll find them in seconds.
Review
This small utility searches for files and folders in archives that are off-limits to the Windows Find function. Archive Searcher can sift through ZIP, RAR, ACE, and CAB volumes. In our testing, the program performed well, using little memory and searching quickly. The interface is clear and convenient: you simply specify a start folder, a filename to search for, and the type of archive to search. Unfortunately, the program can't search all types of archives at once, nor can it search for content inside a file. Also, a bit surprisingly, there is no feature for opening or dragging individual files from the results list--you have to open the whole archive. Archive Searcher works only 10 days in trial mode, and we thought $29.95 was a bit steep for such a modest program. Businesses can get by with Archive Searcher, but they may be happier with a more full-featured application.
