Mp4DVD for Mac: The Ultimate DVD Backup Tool

If you're a movie buff, you know how important it is to have your favorite movies and TV shows backed up. After all, DVDs can get scratched or lost, and you don't want to lose your precious collection. That's where Mp4DVD for Mac comes in - it's the ultimate DVD backup tool that lets you rip a DVD track into an Mp4 with chapter marks added.

But that's not all - Mp4DVD can also be used to copy title VOB files or mirror the DVD's VIDEO_TS folder. And if you're backing up TV show DVDs where the episodes are all in one track with chapter marks separating them, use Mp4Split along with Mp4DVD for seamless backups.

One of the best things about using Mp4DVD is that it preserves the quality of your original DVD while giving you more flexibility in terms of playback options. You can watch your backups on any device that supports MP4 playback, including smartphones, tablets, and smart TVs.

But what really sets Mp4DVD apart from other backup tools is its integration with another app called Mp4Autotag. With this app, you can make any MP4 backup look just like a purchase from iTunes store by adding metadata such as cover art and descriptions.

Features:

- Rip DVDs into MP4 format

- Add chapter marks to MP4 files

- Copy title VOB files or mirror VIDEO_TS folder

- Use with Mp4Split for TV show backups

- Preserve original DVD quality

- Playback on any device supporting MP$ playback

- Integration with MpAutotag

How does it work?

Using MpDvd is easy - simply insert your DVD into your Mac's optical drive and launch the app. From there, select which chapters or titles you want to back up and choose whether to add chapter marks or not.

Once the ripping process is complete (which may take some time depending on how much data needs to be transferred), you'll have an MP$ file ready for playback on any device supporting this format.

If needed (for example when backing up TV shows), use Mpsplit along with Mpdvd so each episode has its own file complete with chapter markers separating them.

Finally use Mpaurotag if desired so each backup looks like a purchase from iTunes store by adding metadata such as cover art and descriptions.

Why choose mpdvd?

There are many reasons why mpdvd stands out among other dvd backup tools:

1) Quality preservation: mpdvd ensures that no quality loss occurs during ripping process.

2) Flexibility: mpdvd allows users play their backups on any device supporting mp$ format.

3) Chapter marking: users can easily add chapters making navigation through their backups easier.

5) Integration: mpaurotag makes each backup look like a purchase from iTunes store by adding metadata such as cover art and descriptions.

Conclusion:

Review

Those with large DVD collections may want a program to back them up on their computer hard drives. If so, you'll pass on Mp4DVD for Mac, which didn't work well for us.

Available as freeware, Mp4DVD for Mac downloaded quickly and installation did not require any user interaction. It also didn't include any user instruction, and technical support did not appear to be available. Fortunately, the user interface was easy to use, albeit dated. The program asks the user to drag and drop a DVD icon into it for ripping. There are no options available for file conversion, such as audio and video output formats. The user also has no control over the resolution of the output video file. Once initiated, a menu comes up showing the progress of the ripping operation in an easy-to-read display. The DVD tested started ripping quickly, but stopped approximately halfway through with a large and indecipherable error message. The output file came out corrupted and would not open in any video player application.

While simple, Mp4DVD for Mac's lack of options and poor current functioning mean users should look elsewhere for applications to back up their DVD collection.
