Description
SoccerSaver turns your screen into a soccer field with cartoonish 3D-rendered players running around in an attempt to play a game of soccer. Its options include the ability to change the appearance of the field by adding lines, bumps, or a mowing pattern. You also can project a message on the grass, setting the font, alignment, and brightness. You can keep track of the score, choose the outfit and names of the two teams, change and display the names of the separate players, and keep track of the statistics for each player. In Version 3.5 intergalactic players are added.
Review
Although its performance is a bit strange and repetitive, this cheerful soccer-centric screensaver scores points for its strong feature set and lack of adware. After launching Soccer Saver, you'll get a bird's-eye view of a football match between two teams of odd-looking little creatures that vaguely resemble humans. Though the program keeps score, the players run willy-nilly about the field, only occasionally kicking the ball and scoring goals. The application's graphics are strictly average, and we would appreciate some theme music or sound effects. Still we are glad to find a rather large amount of user-customization options. For instance, you can change the uniforms and skin tones of the players; display your own personal message on the field; and tweak the team names. You also can choose how many players appear on each soccer club, but in our tests, this option didn't work. We don't consider Soccer Saver to be a must-have, but it might make a good pick for younger fans of the game.
