Description
Puzzle Mania lets you play jigsaw puzzles and create new ones from any image file. Play with your own pictures or choose from the supplied thematic galleries. When starting a game, you can choose between several difficulty levels defining the size and number of puzzle pieces to be created. The jigsaw pattern is generated randomly for each new game. Generated puzzles can be also printed on paper.
Version 2.3 adds new image galleries.
Review
This program offer fans of jigsaw puzzles a decent way to kill time, but it can't trump its numerous competitors. Puzzle Mania's main window provides icons for performing most functions and displays 10 predesigned templates, ranging from a city skyline at dusk to an underwater scene. Clicking any design brings you to another screen, where you'll begin to assemble your puzzle. The number of pieces per puzzle is determined by what difficulty level you select, but we really would have preferred the ability to choose the number of pieces ourselves. A ghost image of the original picture appears beneath the puzzle, but you can turn it off if you're looking for more of a challenge. Similar to most other applications of this kind, this one lets you use your own images to create customized puzzles, but you can't change the piece style or size. Despite its shortcomings, this program might suit more inexperienced puzzle enthusiasts.
