Review
Learning to speed-read becomes rather fun with RocketReader. You can create multiple accounts, with statistics kept and reading levels set for each. The program allows you to change the backgrounds of the various windows. At start-up, you can choose to embark on a 10-, 20-, 40-, or 60-minute guided session, or chart your own course by choosing Custom. Five disciplines promote different methods for improving your reading skills: Flash, Grouping, Speed, Readings, and Memory. You can use your own text files as Readings and create your own comprehension quizzes for Memory tests (consult the Help file for formatting details). The demo offers both regular and Gold versions, the latter of which lets you practice reading from Web sites of your choice. Families with children might particularly benefit from RocketReader, but it makes a nice pick for anyone who needs to hone his or her speed-reading skills.
