For those in need of a browser with no learning curve, this freeware fits the bill. Basic Browser's icon- and toolbar-free interface greatly simplifies Web surfing. Help is a mere three lines, but even novices should pick up this app quickly.
Operating Basic Browser is as easy as entering a URL and pressing the Go button. The program uses Internet Explorer but doesn't display embedded Flash or some JavaScript. The only functions are to reload or stop loading pages. Testers loved the simplicity of this browser, but complained on a pair of points. After entering a URL, the browser requires users press the Go button instead of merely pressing Return. The browser also fails to update the address box after users click an URL.
Basic Browser may be feature-light, but it still uses as much memory overhead as Windows Explorer. This app is a good fit for any publicly accessed area like a kiosk or school lab.
