Description

CoCSoft Stream Down downloads streaming media, supporting not only HTTP and FTP downloads, but also streaming-media downloads such as RTSP, MMS, MMSU, and MMST. It will capture streaming video or audio and save to your hard disk so you can play the media offline.

Version 6.4 includes unspecified updates.

Editor review

Like the proverbial hedgehog, CoCSoft Stream Down knows one thing well: in this case, how to capture streaming-media files and save them to disk. Just enter the URL of a streaming-media file and the program stores the content in the directory of your choice. In addition to FTP and HTTP, CoCSoft Stream Down can handle several streaming protocols: RTSP, MMS, MMSU, and MMST. However, downloading is all it does--it cannot play or edit files--and the mostly clean interface has some irritating shortcomings. The Down and Stop buttons on the toolbar seem permanently grayed out. Also, the awkward Download Chart uses thousands of colored balls rather than a standard thermometer to display the progress of a download. The software doesn't accelerate the downloading process, either. However, if none of that is a concern to you, CoCSoft Stream Down is a solid though unspectacular choice for archiving streaming media.
