More powerful than its simple interface suggests, StillMotion PE is a very capable tool for creating media-rich slide shows. You select images individually or by the folder. They appear in the main application window, where you can drag and drop them into the order you like. With the toolbar-based interface, you can rotate and crop images, add labels and sound, correct contrast, and adjust brightness. You also can apply transition effects including Spin, Wipe, Dissolve, and Zoom. Output options include autoplaying a CD, a screensaver, a Flash movie, and a self-playing EXE file, all of which are viewable without special software. StillMotion PE also offers five levels each of video and sound compression, for fine-tuning the size of the output file. Our only major complaint was with the unacceptably slow performance of the included Flash movie player utility. Nevertheless, we can recommend this straightforward, reliable slide-show utility for home use.
