Description

QuickZipLite (qzLite) is a powerful and fast compress utility. Is not intended to act as a clone of another archiver. The aim is to develop a clean and more powerful interface. qzLite can create 4 different formats (zip, lha,7z, sqx) and read over 20 different formats (including zip, cab, lha, tar, tgz, bz2, bza, 7z, sqx, rar, ace, arj) as well as various kinds of encoding formats without using any external programs.

Additional features include Full drag and drop, Queue Monitor, Thumbnail mode, Folder like bookmarks and Hotedit. QzLite3 provides easy to use filtering techniques (e.g. filename wildcards, size) to search for files inside of an archive. Version 3 build 2943 includes unspecified updates.

Review

Editor review

A no-frills approach and lots of user guidance are offset only by one small glitch in this free archiving software.

Quick Zip Lite presents a familiar, two-pane interface with no design frills, just an unadorned, but cleanly functional, appearance. All of this tool's features are straight forward and easy to understand. The publishers includes links to animated Web sites showing how to use this utility. We liked the simplicity of creating a new archive using drag-and-drop, and being able to create and rename subfolders within an archive while we were building it.

Quick Zip Lite responded to all our commands quickly during our tests. It performed very well in creating archives. However, although the developer includes RAR files in the list of archive formats the utility supports, when we tried to open an RAR file, Quick Zip Lite wouldn't list the RAR files in our test folder in its Open dialog box. This is an odd bug we couldn't solve.

Otherwise, we were quite pleased with this freeware utility's performance and ease of use. Users needing a simple archive solution should give it a try.
