Review

Editor review

Unlike many Arkanoid-style programs we've reviewed, this one actually adds some innovative twists on the classic game. BreakQuest deviates from the standard brick-breaking formula by letting you bust up all kinds of objects. For example, one board we played featured multicolored spheres, while another one looked like a computer's motherboard. This application's graphics are much better than many similar games we've played; we especially liked the colorful trails that follow your ball and the sparks that fly when you destroy an object. BreakQuest appears to have a story line behind it, but the demo just gives you a tease of the full plot. Arcade mode lets you skip ahead to any level, but you'll first have to pass a certain number of challenges in Quest mode. The feature set is decent, letting you play in full-screen mode, adjust the volume, and choose from three difficulty levels. All told, any fan of Breakout-style games should spend some time with this one.
