Review
Offline Commander is an offline browser that is designed to let you download entire Web pages and sites. But thanks to a trial restriction, we were never able to see this program's full potential.
Novice users beware: Offline Commander has an overwhelming user interface. There is a how-to guide at the start of the program, but the instructions are way too long. The interface has buttons everywhere, and there's no flow to them. You'll find command buttons across the top, left, and right sides of the window, with panels in the center displaying folders, URLs, and connections. There's so much going on that its easy to miss something, and we did. When we put the program to the test, we started by creating a new task. A window popped up and asked us to enter the URL of the site we wanted to download. It also asked us to name the task. We first received a nag screen asking us to register and pay for the program. We also realized after the fact that we had forgotten to set the link depth, so we had to start over again.
After all was said and done, the trial restriction prevented us from downloading all of the pages. There are too many strikes to this offline browser to warrant a recommendation from us.
