Description
Ute is a compact utility with Time Syncing, Window Shutdown control, Wave File playing, Delayed/Controlled Running and Wallpaper Changing capabilities. It is a collection of ACAPsoft utilities (iTimeSync, Slam and QWave) with four new functions are also added. (Run, CD, Backup and Wallpaper). It is optimised for Command Line Control but the Wallpaper Changer and iTimeSync can also be operated in windowed mode. The iTimeSync function synchronizes your computer clock with an internet time server.
Review
This useful program combines tools to adjust your system time to an Internet source, change wallpaper, and execute shutdown functions. Ute's basic, Windows-dialog-style interface presents its main tools in tabs, though most functions were designed to run at the command line.
You can easily sync time to preset Internet sources, or set your own time-server IP address. The wallpaper changer easily pulls random images, but only from a single user-set directory tree. QPlay is a tiny sound player that's easily set as an option, or as the default WAV device. The various Slam shutdown functions can be set in a batch file and easily invoked.
Administrators and power users will appreciate that this is a USB-friendly application. The CD drawer Open and Close commands are only accessible through the command line or batch file. Small, removable-drive-friendly, and helpful for many users, Ute is a decent addition to your toolbox.
