Description

AddressBookSync is a handy tool to keep your contacts' pictures updated if you have numerous Facebook friends in your Mac OS X Address Book. If your phone supports synchronization with Address Book you should be able to have your contacts' profile pictures show up when they call you. Birthday synchronization is also available (nice for the iCal birthday calendar). AddressBookSync supports the automatic matching of many common short/alternate first names between Facebook and Address Book (i.e. Michael and Mike, William and Bill, Jessica and Jess).

Review

Editor review

Users who keep contact lists between multiple programs need a way to sync them. AddressBookSync for Mac is designed for this purpose alone, but its lack of user guidance and poor performance detract from its usefulness.

Download of this freeware program completed quickly with no problems or user agreements required. There were no user instructions either, which, despite the easy-to-use program features, made AddressBookSync for Mac difficult to operate, initially. The menus appeared dated with few options or features that were identifiable. Two buttons allowed the user to look at matched and unmatched contacts between Facebook and the computer. There was a selection for updating the program, but clicking it brought up an error message. After startup, the application attempts to sign in to Facebook. This failed several times before it finally completed. Even with both Facebook and the Mac Address Book open, the contact lists failed to load into the program for matching and synching, which is a disappointment since this is the application's sole function.

AddressBookSync for Mac's lack of useful features and problematic operation mean users should look elsewhere for managing contacts.
