Review
E*TRADE Mobile Pro offers you all the trading and investing tools you need on a daily basis, but isn't the most optimized or accessible of apps. Overall, it's functional and valuable, but expect clumsy layouts, lags, crashes, errors, and minor interface problems.
Pros
Powerful tools for pros: Intended for financial experts, E*TRADE Mobile Pro packs a lot for a mobile app: markets overview, quotes, portfolios, transactions, orders, watch lists, check deposit, Briefing.com news, and just about any other financial tool you'd need to complete a trade. Note, though, that to enjoy its most powerful features you need an E*TRADE account.
Voice feature: The app comes with integrated voice recognition software which, although not perfect, can prove to be a handy assistant, as it's able to take quite advanced commands like buying x shares of y at a price limit, sell shares, or get quotes. You'll need a bit of time to get used to the available commands.
Cons
Cluttered interface and odd layouts: The customizable main window widgets as well as features like Markets or Portfolios could use screen space more effectively. As you use this app you'll stumble upon layouts that just don't seem right, whether they pack too much information in a small space or are not condensed enough.
Performance issues: We've encountered quite a few "Information not available" errors while testing the app, as well as lag and occasional crashes.
No PIN log-in: You must always log in with your E*TRADE username and password.
Bottom Line
In spite of its quirks and performance problems, E*TRADE Mobile Pro has too many good features to be turned down. If you're not an E*TRADE user, however, you won't be able to access most of the features and will be better off downloading alternative financial apps.
