MuseScore for Mac provides an easy and straightforward way to notate your existing scores or create new ones from scratch. It comes with an impressive array of software instruments as well as MuseScore Connect, a network for users to share their musical pieces, get news, and seek help.

Not too polished but usable, MuseScore for Mac's main interface presents a list of software instruments and a toolbar containing musical notes. Buried in the app's menus you will find many advanced features such as style management, key and time signatures, lyrics insertion, and more. Notating can be done in three ways: with a mouse, a keyboard, or a MIDI-enabled device. In terms of export options, the app allows you to save the entire project, the composition audio, as well as the sheet music, itself. We were able to export ten sheets of music to PNG files in ten seconds and to an OGG file in five seconds.

If you like composing music by notating rather than playing, an app like MuseScore for Mac offers a lot of value. It can be useful to you whether you're a professional composer or casual user, so long as you take the time to become familiar with its many features. Even if you don't plan to create music, the MuseScore Connect feature lets you enjoy the works of others.
