Description
DesktopWidgets is a tiny special program(209 KB), called a run-time environment, which allows you to run custom build Mac OS X Desktop Widgets or even Mac OS X Dashboard Widgets on your Macintosh Desktop. Instruction, Help and custom build DesktopWidgets are provided within the installer. Note: It is not tested on Mac OS X Lion or Mountain Lion. Any positive feedback is welcome.

For those who are not able to use the dashboard or any of its widgets due to the extra steps involved to access them, DesktopWidgets for Mac provides a quick way to use those from the main computer screen. While there are a number of steps required to set up widgets, once activated they add functionality to most Macs without any glitches.
The program's first window after installing quickly gives the user the option to open the program, itself, or view an HTML instruction. The instructions are helpful since there is little to the program's operation. A drop-down menu is the only actual interface for the program, and this acts as a gateway to allow dashboard widgets to be operated from the desktop. Users can open a Finder window to select widgets through this drop-down, or through a number of keyboard shortcuts, which are basic and intuitive. It may require additional research to locate folders where dashboard widgets are stored, but this does not add much to the time of operation for DesktopWidgets for Mac. Once selected, dashboard widgets open up directly on the desktop, as advertised. The window size is similar to that in the dashboard, itself, making them easy to click and drag around the screen to rearrange as desired. We tested this app on Mac OS X Mountain Lion and no problems were detected.
DesktopWidgets for Mac performs well and adds more fun to any desktop. Whether you need widgets for different apps, latest news, games, or anything else, this application would be a suitable solution for anyone who wants to operate dashboard widgets more quickly and conveniently.
