Description

Menu Eclipse is a completely new application written from the ground up, and made to last. Save those constant pixels in the menu bar from getting burned into your screen. Gain better focus on your work & play, and away from the menu bar. Runs in the background and takes almost no CPU activity. Does not tamper with your system, just so you know.

Review

Editor review

Menu Eclipse for Mac extends the life of your display by introducing color changes to the otherwise static Mac Menu bar. This premium app comes with a free version that performs its function well and is not disabled in any way by its limitations, so you will want to try it out before buying the full version.

After a straightforward installation, Menu Eclipse for Mac shows you the main settings screen. The interface is laid out well and features a tab with the most popular toggles. The app has essentially two functions: dimming the Menu bar and running a scrubber across it. While setting up the app, you will be presented with a field where you have to enter a shortcut key for toggling the dimming of the display on and off. Our tests with this feature revealed that the user's choice overrides any native function that may be associated with the shortcut, so make sure you choose only keyboard combinations that are not being actively used by other apps. Another feature of this app is the ability to run a line across the Menu bar for a set amount of time after a predetermined period.

Want to extend the lifespan of your Mac's LCD display? Try out Menu Eclipse for Mac. Keep in mind, though, that while it does perform its function well, the periodic animations may be distracting at times. Moreover, if you're using OS X's fullscreen mode on a regular basis, you will find the app unnecessary.

Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of Menu Eclipse for Mac 2.4.3.
