From the deepest tunnel to the highest slag heap: the Mining Story app will guide you through the Limburg mining region! Whether on foot or by bicycle, this app offers everyone a unique experience.
Start your mining experience at home with eight fascinating short films. Directed by Stijn Coninx, eight Limburg residents tell their story with a personal link to the local mining past. Eight stories linked to the eight collieries. Mine worker's son Ignace Schops (the founder of the Hoge Kempen National Park) tells us how the nature of the slag heaps inspired him. Genk resident Don Luca raps about the influence of the multicultural mining district parlance on his music, which echoes from the stands of football club Racing Genk on a weekly basis. Follow your favourite story to the corresponding mining site and find out more!
Only when you have arrived at one of the eight Limburg collieries will the second part of the app be activated. Striking short films, fascinating information, interactive options and image material such as panoramic drone videos, 360 views and photos will then be active on your smartphone and will enrich your visit to the mining region with a large number of extras. The app guides you to the hotspots of each colliery for an unforgettable experience.
