AutoTypewriter

AutoTypewriter lets you assign certain blocks of text to hot keys, so you can fill in items you type out often with just a few taps. Select your own hot keys, and type in custom lines of text, and then let the program do the rest.

Pros

Complete customization: This app gives you the power to select the keys you'd like to use for each often-used item of text. You can select from the drop-down menu, or just type in the key you want. Handy check boxes also let you determine whether you want to press "Alt," "Shift," or "Alt+Shift" to activate the hot key in each particular instance. Each line also has an Enable box that you can check or uncheck to turn an item on or off.

Video tutorial: While the app has a rather intuitive interface, there is also a brief video tutorial that shows you how to access all features and get the most out of the program.

Cons

Hot key confusion: When you're setting your hot keys, you'll want to make sure you don't pick something that doesn't have another function in the program or programs you're likely to be using the shortcuts in. This can be a bit of a challenge especially with word processing programs that often have many hot key shortcuts. If you do try to use one of your autofill shortcuts in a program it shares a hot key with, it either won't work at all or will trigger both responses, both of which happened during our testing.

Bottom Line

This is a basic but useful program to help you be more efficient when entering certain types of text, like e-mail addresses, that you use all the time. And since AutoTypewriter is free, it's definitely worth trying out.
