Adobe Photoshop Mix for iPhone

Adobe Photoshop Mix for iPhone 1.8

iOS / Adobe Systems / 1824 / Full spec
Description

Combine the power of Adobe Photoshop software with the convenience of mobile for a creative, easy-to-use photo editing experience on your iPad (see recommended devices below). Non-destructive photo enhancements, selections, the ability to cut out and mix images, and more; plus a Creative Cloud connected workflow for even more creative possibilities.

Review

In an ongoing effort to expand the Creative Cloud portfolio, Adobe has been steadily releasing new Photoshop products. Enter Photoshop Mix, a portable, tablet-optimized photo editor that cuts objects from one photo to combine with objects from another photo.

Pros

Mixology: Photoshop Mix's main feature lets you cut out objects from one photo to use in another photo. It's almost like a stripped-down version of Photoshop's smart-selection tools for iPad. Once the object is cut, you can transform it in any way you see fit -- like creating pictures of elephants in space.

Creative Cloud: With Photoshop Mix's Creative Cloud integration, you can access your photos and project libraries from the cloud. When you're finished touching up your photos with Mix, Creative Cloud exports to any other Adobe products you may own with your subscription, including Photoshop on your PC or Mac.

Value: Unlike other Photoshop offerings, Photoshop Mix is free. Certain features are paid-only, but for basic two-layer projects, Photoshop Mix should please most users.

Cons

Limited third-party cloud: The introductory level of Creative Cloud offers 2GB of storage, but we would have appreciated more interaction with other popular photo storage outlets, like Google Photos and Drive.

Not for older tablets: Though Mix mostly worked fine on our iPad 3, we felt some performance hiccups and slowdowns, especially when dealing with larger PSD files. iPad 2 owners should expect cringeworthy speeds when dealing with high-resolution photos.

Bottom Line

Adobe Photoshop Mix is a mixed bag. It offers worthwhile features, such as enhanced cropping and moving feature and cloud support. But it let us down with its lack of third-party cloud support and sucking up our power. Still, it complements Creative Cloud's larger ecosystem of photo tools.
