Description
TaskRunner is a system tray application that performs various tasks based on how you configure it. It includes three main modules. Task Scheduler: Allows you schedule all kinds of tasks to run at defined times, such as running executables, or backing up/deleting/downloading files, monitoring processes/services, or cleaning up your system. It also includes built-in e-mail/pop-up/sound notifications to let you know when Tasks complete/fail. E-mail Monitor: Checks your POP/IMAP e-mail accounts and lets you know when you have new messages. Web Search: Allows you to search various search engines (Google, Live, and Yahoo) as well as various Google functions (Shopping, Maps, and Define) plus News and Shopping sites, all in one place.
Version 3.2.1099 adds the new Process and Service Monitor which allows you to monitor a local or remote Process/Windows Service and receive notifications whenever it stops running.
Review
This small application runs batch and executable files instantly, or on a user-defined schedule, but some may find it a bit complicated to use. it lacks an easily accessible help file. The program resides in the system tray. Right-clicking the TaskRunner icon will display a menu for configuring the utility. Its flexible options are divided into four tabs: General, FTP, Email, and Other, the latter for setting hot keys and Web search preferences. We tested the software's batch and executable-file-running capabilities using different applications. The e-mail-monitoring test failed. However, the Web search tool, which lets you do online queries, offered impressive results, even with the software's file or folder backup utility running through an FTP connection. TaskRunner is a bit complex for anyone who wants a simple task scheduler, and we wish the help file, available through an Internet connection, was more easily accessible. Novice users may be intimidated by its capabilities, but advanced users may appreciate its several configurable options.
