Review
Respawnables is a lot like Team Fortress 2 or other FPS games that are loaded with character, deep options, and unique settings. While there are certainly limitations related to the fact that it is designed for mobile devices, it is a remarkable achievement for what it offers, and it manages to make good use of the mobile interface for a responsive, fun-to-play FPS experience.
After installation, Respawnables will download a decent amount of data before you can start playing it for the first time, so there is a two to five minute wait depending on your connection -- and you won't want to play this the first time when out of the house on a cellular connection. This is not a full-blown single player campaign FPS. It is designed and plays like a multiplayer game, requiring you to take on opponents in deathmatch-style settings across multiple stages that are thematic in various ways. With touchscreen controls, multiple load outs, and character classes to choose from, combined with the cartoonish look that gives games like Team Fortress their charm, it's a fun diversion and a great way to kill a few minutes on your phone.
While it won't run as well or update on a cellular network (nor would you want to burn your data doing so), the Respawnables is a great Wi-Fi mobile game for your iPhone. It runs smoothly, offers numerous options, and is one of the better multiplayer FPS experiences on any mobile device we've played this year. It's free to play with some paid upgrade options, but you can play without buying any of them if you wish.
