Description

CDpedia is a CD manager software for Mac OS X. Its familiar iTunes style interface makes it easy to use. It integrates with iTunes so that you may know what CDs in your collection you have imported. You also have access to all the Amazon sites as well as other international music sites to retrieve information for your database.

Editor review

With its easy-to-use interface and good features, CDpedia for Mac comes to your rescue if you have a cluttered collection of CDs. Its powerful search feature that retrieves valuable metadata from the Web and convenient sorting options make it appealing for music lovers who like to keep their CD collections in order. The app's iTunes-like interface, though by no means spectacular, is streamlined and really helps you catalog your music faster.

The free trial version of CDpedia for Mac is fully functional but limits you to adding 25 entries, which is more than enough to properly test the application's features. Adding a new CD to your collection with this app is easy and requires only a few clicks. A search bar lets you enter keywords for the CD you want to add, and the app fetches relevant information from an online music database, including cover art and detailed metadata. What we liked about it is that if there are multiple matches, you can switch between them to select the right one in your collection. The entered CDs are displayed quickly in the main application window and are listed in alphabetical order by title, but you can also sort them by artist, genre, or label. Apart from the cataloging features, the app also sports a borrowed items list with a useful timer for each item, as well as a CD wish list.

Fast and functional, CDpedia for Mac can indeed help you sort your CD collection. While it's great cataloging software for music lovers with many CDs in their audio library, you don't need to have hundreds or thousands of albums to find this app useful -- a dozen CDs is enough.

Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of CDpedia for Mac 5.1.8.
