Description
Want to clean up your disk space to make more room for new stuff? Find out which folders are occupying the most disk space with the help of the tools included in ShowSize. Folder Sizes List shows you all the folders, including subfolders with their occupied size and number of files contained in them. Sort on either of those columns by clicking on their headers to see which folders are the largest. Right-click and open any folder in Windows File Manager to look at its list of files. Or, you can switch to the Folders and Files list that is included. It can help you sort folders and files together in one big tree list.
Drill down these tree lists to find the folders that you identify as no longer being used and then decide to clean them up using Windows File Manager.
An innovative Top Items chart also helps you find the most significant folders in terms of size. You can drill down by clicking on this chart too. All-in-all, ShowSize is a must-have tool for effectively managing disk space on your PC.
Review
ShowSize Disk Space Analyzer scans deeply and displays customizable views and reports. It's powerful enough for data professionals, network admins, and advanced users with extensive disk arrays.
Pros
Not a toy: ShowSize documents its superiority to "toy programs," pointing out that deep, thorough scanning takes time and that lightweight tools can freeze your PC mid-scan with no way out (except maybe a hard restart).
Charts and bars: We could configure many data views, including several types and levels of bar graphs, and customize columns, headings, and sort order.
Explorer mode: Right-clicking any displayed item accesses a menu full of commands, including the ability to view or open files or folders in Explorer or manage them directly in Explorer mode.
Cons
Subscription: An annual subscription instead of a one-time purchase price means you must buy ShowSize again, year after year.
Similar freeware: Some free disk space utilities come close to ShowSize in capabilities, and some (like TreeSize Free) are easier to use and read.
Bottom Line
ShowSize Disk Space Analyzer may be the most powerful tool of its type we've encountered. For pros, it's hardly overpriced, but most users should start with freeware and move up as their needs and skills evolve.
Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of ShowSize Disk Space Analyzer 5.6.
