Description

With the STABILO ErgoPen, the movement data of clients during writing can be measured and thus graphically and writing motor abnormalities and potentials can be revealed on an evidence-based basis. The data is transferred to the corresponding ErgoPen app via Bluetooth. This enables targeted therapy based on a quick analysis. Its appearance and writing behaviour are similar to that of a normal pen, but the inner workings and analysis options in the ErgoPen App make it an innovative and indispensable tool for the occupational therapist's daily work.

How the STABILO ErgoPen and the ErgoPen App work

Due to the innovative system, the application is as easy as the evaluation. First of all, a client profile is created using the ErgoPen App developed in-house. Therapeutically relevant observations such as visual impairment, handiness, AD(H)S or tremor can be easily assigned. The client's grapho- and writing-motor skills are determined on the basis of nine different tasks. The STABILO ErgoPen records the various parameters while writing on standard paper and transmits them via Bluetooth to the app, where they are evaluated. This provides valid data on writing pressure, angle, duration and frequency as well as the degree of automation. In addition, a simple selection menu allows posture, pen position and working method to be observed and recorded during the test.

The pen offers the possibility to test grapho- and writing motor skills over a longer period of time and thus to follow and document the course of therapy. Especially in the field of long-term therapy, such as for stroke patients, visualizing the progress can be motivating for the client. Bar and line diagrams illustrate the determined values in relation to the respective normal range of the age group. Previous test results can also be displayed, allowing the client to observe and visualize the progress of treatment. STABILO has stored over 1300 reference data so that an age-specific evaluation is possible.

Creating reports has been time-consuming up to now. Here too, the STABILO ErgoPen App helps - at the touch of a button, a report is generated which clearly displays all test results and the success of the therapy in line diagrams. This (doctor's) report can be sent online as a PDF or printed. The STABILO ErgoPen thus proves to be a unique tool for use in occupational therapy, especially in graphomotor and hand therapy, and in medicine in the fields of paediatrics, neurology and psychiatry.
