Review
TwoDots relies on an uncomplicated game mechanic -- using vertical and horizontal lines, you draw shapes on top of dots of the same color in order to dismiss them. The game ends when you run out of moves or when you complete the level's objective.
Pros
Straightforward and addictive: Despite TwoDots's basic premise, the gameplay proves to be addictive and challenging, especially on the higher levels.
Objectives and achievements: Each level has its own objectives that you need to complete in order to advance in the game -- you are ranked depending on your score. There are also GameCenter achievements as an added challenge.
Facebook integration: In addition to seeing your friends' high scores, linking the game to your Facebook account allows you to save your progress and pick up the game from where you've left it on another device.
Cons
Poor tutorial: When playing the game for the first time, we found the tutorial to be quite lacking. We had to discover for ourselves that you can do not just straight lines -- but also shapes.
Unresponsive controls: The game struggles with more hastily drawn shapes. Our advice is to move your finger slowly when drawing them and to look for the visual feedback the game gives you.
Imbalanced at times: Because of the in-app purchase model, we found the game to be quite challenging -- even on the lower levels.
Bottom Line
If you've played Candy Crush Saga and liked it, you should also try TwoDots. The minimalistic art makes the game look casual, but overall it's a polished title. The only real downside to the app is the high level of difficulty, which forces you to take frequent pauses in order to wait for new lives to be generated, without which you cannot continue playing.
