Description

Tactile12000 is a QuickTime-based 3D simulation of a DJ setup, consisting of two virtual turntables and a mixer. It allows you to cross-fade, back-spin, and speed up and slow down music--including full-length WAV and MP3 files--on your computer. It allows you to mix songs, and it can automatically cross-fade between songs stored in your MP3 playlist. Version 2.1 has a new interface, audio-cueing capabilities, pitch bending, improved controls, bug fixes, and more.

Editor review

With limited mixing and effects, Tactile 12000 is more suited to amateur DJs and those who want simple cross-fading for their favorite MP3s. The software's 3D interface mimics a real DJ setup, with two turntables and any imported MP3 or WAV file being represented in a stack of virtual wax. Basic effects such as pitch control, cross-fading, and RPM selection are easy enough to use, although those wanting to really mix it up will likely be left wanting more. A limited scratch tool also is available. The $29.95 price tag makes Tactile12000 an affordable and fun way to create MP3 playlists with a bit more pizzazz, but those who want serious DJ tools, such as automated beat matching and looping, should look elsewhere.
