Description
DLExpert is a multithreaded download manager. It makes full use of the client's and server's resources to download files from the Internet at a faster rate. DLExpert's multithreading function allows it to download a file in several parts, simultaneously. DLExpert supports HTTP and FTP, as well as HTTP and FTP proxy. It also features pause-and-resume options, as well as autodial, auto-hang-up, download scheduling, and auto-shutdown capabilities. DLExpert supports multiple languages, lets you catch URLs from the Clipboard, and lets you create directories in the Select Directory dialog.
Version 0.99 features optional confirmation when URL is redirected; unfinished files are deleted when jobs are deleted; and corruption of some ZIP or EXE files is fixed.
Review
While this download manager does help speed up the process of grabbing files from the Internet, a lack of features and flexibility make DLExpert more amateur than expert. The process is simple: to start downloading, simply click the appropriate link in your browser (note: DLExpert only supports Internet Explorer) or copy the link into the program's Clipboard. We like that this freeware offers some basic automation options. Once the program has finished downloading, it can automatically log off and shut down. Also, DLExpert can sort downloads based on file type. That said, you can't schedule downloads, interrupt downloads midstream, or automatically log on to password-protected sites. If you want to give some punch to the download process, this freeware does what it's billed to do--just don't expect miracles from this basic program.
