Editor review

For a quick and easy game of computer billiards, Grudge Match Pool is an attractive option. Intuitive controls and realistic graphics will initially impress gamers, and a no-frills interface will have them chalking up the cue in no time. Games include eight ball and nine ball, which can be played against the computer or another player, from an overhead or first-person view.

For all the things that Grudge Match Pool does well, a host of small flaws detract from the total experience. First, the break is always automatic, taking away the opening move of a pool game. Also, instead of a time or game limit in the demo, there is a balls-sunk limit for every game played. After a certain number, shot accuracy deteriorates gradually. And most frustrating, after each player has shot, those darn pool balls keep slowly rolling for what seems like an eternity, causing very noticeable disruptions in the game's flow. Grudge Match Pool seems best suited for a patient player who can settle into the game's inherent slowness.
