Description

TurboCrypt Disk Encryption creates and manages encrypted virtual volumes on a computer's hard drive or on other external storage devices. To the operating system, encrypted volumes look exactly like the A: or C: drive. When a drive is unlocked, the user can access information from it just as if it were any other drive on the computer. Only the specific portion of a file that's in use is decrypted and passed on the fly to the operating system.

Keep your music and movie archives on an encrypted virtual drive. Play files directly from the encrypted drive or save them to CDs or MP3 players just as if they were stored anywhere else on your computer. New features include secure file-deletion and a secure wipe of unused disks; file encryption including self-extracting files that allow you to send encrypted messages through e-mail as attachments, even to those who don't share the same software; 512-bit polymorphic encryption; and encrypted volumes of up to 2,000 gigabytes.

Review

Editor review

This disk-encryption utility stands as a convenient and excellent way to lock down your data from prying eyes. Since Windows sees TurboCrypt Disk Encryption as just another drive, you can add files to your encryption archive from any application via a simple right click, a nice time-saving feature. In case of danger, you can lock all your encrypted drives with two clicks, although we wish you could hide it via a hot key. The program offers you several ways to wipe any file beyond recovery and also gives you a tool for cleaning your PC's free drive space. In our tests, TurboCrypt Disk Encryption swiftly did its job and didn't hinder normal computer tasks or PC performance in the least. However, we should note that the trial version will only let you encrypt 256MB of data, which is somewhat restrictive but still pretty fair. Since this program is easy to use and very secure, we think it will appeal to a wide range of users.
