Description
Leylines is a turn-based strategy game with a fantasy setting and emphasis on exploration and conquest. Leylines is a turn-based strategy game set in a fantasy world. Start with a small city and broaden the boarders of your empire through exploration and conquest. As you progress you can build new cities, amass wealth and power, learn magic and recruit new heroes. Leylines supports multiplayer gaming for up to 8 players. Included is a terrain editor so you can create your own maps.
Review
Poor graphics and challenging gameplay may frustrate even the most dedicated druids in this fantasy adventure. Leylines borrows much from the games Civilization and Disciples, requiring you to build, strategize, and conquer in your fantasy world. While backgrounds are very realistic and the several in-game scenes add to the atmosphere, the game controls are mediocre at best. During testing we found ourselves distracted by the busy backgrounds while building, and disappointed by the poorly designed buttons geared to help manage cities. Overall, game buttons are far too small, and actions require far too many clicks that are often counterintuitive to boot. Fortunately, Leylines has a wealth of in-game hints and a very decent tutorial. The biggest shortfall of this demo is its multiplayer option is disabled. If you want to show off your henge, you'll have to pay gold. Overall, dedicated fantasy fans might find much to amuse with Leylines, but its poor design and uninspiring graphics might leave more discerning gamers cold.
