Description
This new, challenging brick-busting game is similar to the arcade classics Arkanoid and Breakout. Use your bat to launch a bouncing ball into a wall of bricks and destroy them. There are many styles of bricks to devastate, including shields, bombs, and cloaks. Not to worry--along the way you can collect weapons and power-ups to achieve victory.
Review
Yet another Breakout clone, Super SmashBall introduces nothing new to the genre. It has an outstanding soundtrack, though the graphics are not particularly stylish. You can't reassign the control keys, but you can use either the mouse or the arrow keys at any time during a game. The small screen and quick-moving ball create a challenging situation. Some levels ratchet up the pressure with a time limit for clearing the board. The ball dynamics don't seem natural, with the ball taking some bad bounces that make gameplay difficult in an artificial way. The registered version of the game has a built-in level editor unavailable in the demo. In our tests, the program ran well even when we used a slow computer. Super SmashBall offers a quick fix for Breakout addicts who can overlook the questionable physics.
