Description

Chromadrome is a 3D track game. Orbit the Earth along massive, slowly accelerating tracks approaching light speed. You can play 20 arcade levels, race against time in the Time Trials, hone your skills and win awards at the Academy, or plug in a second mouse and challenge a friend in the two-player games.

Editor review

This aesthetically pleasing game presents a nice challenge, provided your machine can handle it. In some instances during our testing, Chromadrome ran smoothly on a low-end PC, but in other cases, we experienced some performance issues. For example, on another budget system, the game appeared to take up an inordinate amount of system power; we found it almost impossible to move our mouse with any accuracy. Adjusting the mouse sensitivity via the game's Options menu didn't help matters. The graphics are colorful and polished, though the sound and music lack diversity. Happily, you can disable or turn down the audio, as well as play along to an MP3 of your choice. The first levels of Chromadrome in Arcade mode were disappointingly simple, yet several minutes of playing in Warp mode quickly destroyed our initial impressions. On the more advanced level, keeping our circular 3D character from falling off the track was a daunting task. We appreciated the multiple levels of difficulty, a nice touch that won't alienate novices or more seasoned players. So long as you don't experience the same stability problems we did, you'll likely enjoy Chromadrome.
