Although it offers fewer solitaire variations than some of its competitors, BigPatience still wins us over with its user-customization options. Like many comparable programs, this one offers a variety of solitaire games, including Klondike, Cruel, FreeCell, and Spider. BigPatience's gameplay follows in the footsteps of most solitaire games, though the program's lack of hints may turn off newcomers. Still, you will find detailed help files that explain the rules of every game. The program scores big in terms of features, letting you change the background color and texture, choose from several card decks, and disable the sound. The ability to pick from a number of background photographs--including desert, mountain, and seaside scenes--greatly increases this program's graphical appeal. BigPatience would best suit seasoned solitaire players rather than novices.
