Description
PlanBee calculates and summarizes resource costs and shows all project data in a spreadsheet. Independent resizable and hideable windows show PERT and Gantt (bar-chart) views of the project. Activities and links may be set up and edited in either spreadsheet or PERT views or both at once, since all views are synchronized. You get up to 1,000 activities, with no limit on links per activity (within a total of 1,000 links). Links may be Finish-to-Start, Start-to-Start, or Finish-to-Finish to handle overlapping activities. Links also may specify minimum time lags, and individual activities may have their dates fixed.
Version 2.0e adds the ability to import more task details, to import and export Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), and to export data to a Web page.
Review
PlanCee should get a management consultant to help you run this application; PlanBee is a useful project-management program, but it's awfully difficult to use. The main program window isn't intuitive, as many of the function buttons are placed differently than in similar programs. Task windows pop up on top of each other, making it frustrating to piece together project information. PlanBee does, thankfully, come with an extensive help section--but it only deals in detail with some of the more advanced features. Design headaches aside, the program worked flawlessly during our tests, and a handful of preprogrammed project schedules as examples helped us grope our way through creating our own. Overall, if you're ready for a software challenge, PlanBee will definitely give you one--but it will also be a reliable tool once you have it tamed.
