Description
Hide My Files is a file security utility that protects files and folders from unauthorized use. Hide My Files allows you to choose the files by selecting the directories in which you choose to block users from viewing. Upon locking the files and folders, Hide My Files also prevents access to them via the most recently used files list and also the Windows find/search utility. With a password protection feature, you can easily lock and unlock the files and folders of your choice without worrying about anyone seeing your files.

Though it's extremely easy to use, this security tool doesn't so much hide files as prevent access to them. Hide My Files' clean interface and familiar tree view directory make protecting folders a hassle-free affair. When you lock a folder through the program it replaces its icon with one for the Control Panel. You can still see the filename, but when you open it only Control Panel options will be displayed. Impressively, snoopers won't be able to search or access your files even in DOS mode, but Hide My Files doesn't go the extra step and mask them in the Recent Documents history. Files can't be opened, but they will be visible. The program is password protected but shows up in the Start menu, and it doesn't offer options found in similar utilities to hide the program and use hot keys to open it. No user settings or help files are offered with this simple program, and it has a short seven-day trial period. Since it doesn't encrypt your data, it isn't the best choice for securing your top-secret information, but it will prevent curious colleagues or family members from opening your locked files.
