Description
Ad Smasher automatically stops pop-up ads and all other Internet annoyances. It stops animated Flash ads, third-party activity (pages that pull special ads or send information to other Web sites), timer ads (full-page ads that sleep for 10 to 15 seconds, then take you to what you clicked on), Web bugs, messenger-service ads, and most floating ads. Ad Smasher also is a cookie manager with unique stealth, freeze, and smart-allow options. Its other features include the ability to erase Internet traces when closing your last browser, password protection on Internet Explorer, and the ability to block offending material with a Web-content filter.
4.1.30 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.
Review
This versatile utility blocks annoying advertisements of various kinds and intelligently controls cookies. Ad Smasher copes with ordinary pop-ups, Flash ads, floating ads, GIF animations, and dialog pop-ups that request you to change your home page. It also squashes Web bugs, those hidden images that track user activity or report the details to third-party sites. Our tests proved it quite effective and handy. You can customize the blocking options for sites you frequently visit. For example, you can allow your mail site's pop-up identification dialog but not its Flash animations. We only wish we could copy settings from one site to another. Cookie management offers much more than simple cleanup or disabling; time and session limits are in effect, as is a Smart Allow feature, which automatically allows cookies when sites prompt for a login and a password. We especially recommend the program for dial-uppers, but it's useful for anyone frustrated by the sprawl of unwanted browser windows.
