Description

This is a small utility that cleans up the registry in those cases where huge gaps of whitespace is displayed in the add/remove programs control panel applet. The gap is caused by a badly formatted "DisplayedIcon" entry in the uninstall area of the registry or a bad icon file. We read about the cause in Raymond Chen's blog and decided to write this tool that cleans up the registry entries. You can download, use and distribute it for free. The .exe is only 32kb but needs .NET installed.

This program's name says it all, and it does its one function--removing white space from the Add/Remove Programs utility--well. The program interface is extremely basic and does not include any type of help file. When the program icon is clicked, RemoveWhiteSpaceFromAddRemovePrograms automatically scans the registry and displays a list of icon resource problems in the program window. The only usable feature is the option to select which entries you want to fix. Unlike other registry cleaners, this program does not remove the entry; it renames it. Add/remove program white space is normally caused by the Windows DisplayIcon having a negative number, which can be fixed using Windows Registry Edit. However, this free program shortcuts the process and is useful for users unfamiliar with registry edits.
