Review
Adobe Acrobat's PDF files can be a designer's dream, allowing documents to be distributed online with formatting intact. However, they can be maddening if you want to work with the text inside them. PDF Text Converter is designed to convert the content of PDF documents into text files that can be manipulated even if you don't have the full-blown version of Acrobat. However, we were disappointed in some elements of its performance. The conversion did work with very simple files during our tests, but when tackling more complicated documents the software often seemed unable to recognize text we could extract with a simple copy-and-paste function. When we tried extracting images from a PDF file, the program simply hung. The program can convert TXT files back to PDF, but does not work with more common document formats such as Microsoft Word. The trial version is difficult to evaluate, placing a huge watermark over the extracted text that hides most of the original content. All in all, we can't recommend this program until some of these issues have been addressed.
