Designed to guard your PC from unauthorized access, Simple Desktop Lock's security measures are easily defeated. The program's no-frills interface lets you set up a password and gives a few aesthetic options, such as choosing background image, color, movies, or sound for the lock screen. We appreciate its assistance in disabling common bypass techniques such as the Task Manager, Alt Tab keys, and the taskbar, but this didn't prove to be adequate in offsetting the negatives. Simple Desktop Lock doesn't save user configurations, and you'll need to set up the password protection each time you want to lock your PC. It also doesn't offer quick hot keys to launch the program or lock the screen, features commonly found in similar security applications. Its weakest spot: intruders can easily disable the lock screen by merely rebooting the PC. Simple Desktop Lock proved too simple to be useful, and security-minded folks should look elsewhere for a more effective way to safeguard their PCs.
