Description

Stipple Studio will accept any Windows bitmap formatted picture (BMP) and convert it into a combination of a stippled painting and a paint-by-symbol painting. Your imported photos colors are matched to a wide selection of the most popular off-the-shelf hobby acrylic paint suppliers. Three difficulty settings allow flexibility in choosing the final detail of your painting and the color depth for your final color paintings can range from 16 to 32 to 40 to 50 colors. In addition, you can create any number of special templates of colors using any combination of the supplied manufacturer paints. Produces high-resolution bitmap files that can easily be printed in any size on any printer.

Review

Editor review

While it automatically applies stippling and creates paint-by-number guides from your BMP images, this freeware application suffers from some flaws in design and output. Stipple Studio's basic window has a menu bar with options to open pictures, apply effects, and save. You won't find any controls to resize, minimize, or close the window, and no help file is offered. Stipple Studio has a file tree to choose images, but you'll need to place them in the program's picture folder. You can't see or choose files in other folders, and the app doesn't support other image types. The tools to modify the picture aren't self-explanatory and the image quality never quite reached the desired level using them. Though it's a one-step process to apply stippling and a paint-by-number grid, the option to save images was occasionally, and inexplicably, grayed out. Also in testing, the program closed or locked up while executing certain operations. With its limitations, you'll want to look elsewhere for a more intuitive and flexible painting program.
