Description
Smart Items is a software suite for cataloging virtually any item, including videos, books, stamps, photos, CDs, DVDs, and recipes. The program's ideology is universality, simplicity, and portability. It uses a Windows Explorer-like interface, with unlimited, tree-organized physical-item folders; unlimited tree-organized categories; unlimited fully customized item fields; and functionality for printing, exporting to HTML, searching, sorting, filtering, debtor tracking, and browsing. It is based on our own fast and portable database, which makes it possible for you to view and search the database on PDA (Palm, WinCE) platforms.
Review
We were simultaneously impressed by the flexibility of Smart Items and disappointed by the complexity of its interface. The program's strength is its integrated database, which stores information on a myriad of media: CDs, images, books, and more. You can even create your own categories combining fields such as genre, comments, and images. Fields can include check boxes, HTML-formatted text, lists, and even multilevel trees (useful for albums). Lending activity also can be tracked. The program requires registration even for trial use. Smart Items is best-suited for more experienced users.
