Review
Contrary to its name, this utility only rips your CDs, and doesn't destroy them. CD MP3 Terminator extracts discs into seven popular audio formats including MP3, WMA, OGG, AAC, and VQF. The pleasantly designed interface is simple to understand and better designed than many basic ripping utilities. As is the case with most apps in this class, CD MP3 Terminator lets you set the bit rate and apply VBR compression. However, the program doesn't support high-res bit rates like some of its competitors do; you only can rip MP3s at 256Kbps and AAC files at 128Kbps. We did appreciate the utility for converting files among audio formats, as well as automatic retrieval of track information from the Web. On the downside, ripping speeds were quite poky, and the demo restricts extraction to the first five tunes on the disc. This program is just slightly better than average, but there are enough positives to earn our cautious recommendation.
