Description
DeDup finds and optionally deletes duplicate files based on their contents, not name. It searches folders you specify and you can specify how to pick which file to save if you choose to delete files. The program is tiny and has only one dialog, which you can view in tabbed or untabbed style.
Version 1.01 fixes the Control Panel's "Add or Remove Programs" list error.
Review
This freeware application is not stunningly beautiful, but it efficiently searches for duplicate files without regard to filename. DeDup's bland, basic interface is easy to understand and operate. It takes only four steps to do the job. You just add folders to search and click the Find Dups button. The utility finds duplicate files with blinding speed and displays their filenames and locations. You easily preset your preferences for file deletion based on distance from the root folder, file age, or length of filename. When you click the appropriate button, DeDup instantly deletes duplicates based on your preferences. In our tests, this simple tool ran smoothly and did everything it promised. This application performs a single function, but does it very well. Its small size and speed will make it a useful addition to any PC housekeeping toolbox.
