Red Light | Green Light determines the extent, to which a computer has been used to access pornography-based Internet Web sites. RLGL is not Internet Web site blocking software nor is it a friend of anyone using a computer for illicit purposes. RLGL identifies illicit computer use. It is designed with parents, schools, libraries, employers, law enforcement--any individual concerned about improper computer use.
Review
This program identifies traces of pornography and tracks visits to porn sites, but offers more false positives than positive proof. Red Light | Green Light's basic text-display interface simply lists found data. The Help file is merely a few paragraphs with no detailed explanations.
Operating this application takes just a click to set it to search your hard drive. It quickly identifies select files, newsgroups, and Web sites as pornographic. Unfortunately, our tests found the application red-flagged many non-pornographic images. The application claims to search the entire drive for Web browsing history, find URLs and check them for pornographic content. It failed to identify many porn sites preset on our test machines. The same problem occurred while testing newsgroups. The program is short on user-set options. Setting the search function to include or exclude select Web sites is demo-limited to removing sites. A file activity threshold option failed to set during testing.
Red Light | Green Light operates simply enough for even the most novice user. However, our testers found more time was spent tracking down improperly identified files than problem files. The five-day demo isn't long enough to test this application under normal working conditions.
