OkMap 10.12.2
Description
OkMap is a powerful and interactive software designed for travel enthusiasts who want to explore the world with digital maps. With OkMap, you can work on your computer screen with digital maps that you have either bought or scanned. The software also allows you to import vectorial data from the most common formats and DEM data relevant to height information.
One of the key features of OkMap is its ability to collect data from your GPS device. You can download this data onto your computer, store it, and display it on the maps. This feature enables you to create different types of statistics based on your GPS data.
If you are connected to a network, OkMap allows you to constantly send your position to a remote computer or receive the position of your companions on your computer and display their related tracks on maps in real-time. This feature makes it easy for travelers who are exploring new places together.
OkMap also offers several tools that allow users to customize their maps according to their preferences. For instance, users can add markers, routes, tracks, polygons, and text labels onto their maps. They can also change map projections and adjust colors according to their needs.
The software has an intuitive interface that makes it easy for users with little or no experience in using digital mapping tools. The interface is divided into several sections such as Map Viewport (where users view their map), Layers (where they manage layers), Tools (where they access various tools), Properties (where they customize properties), and Information (where they view information about selected objects).
OkMap supports various file formats such as BMP/JPG/TIF/PNG/ECW/IMG/KMZ/KAP/WMS/WMTS/OSM/GPX/NMEA/SHP/DXF/DWG/MIF/MID/CSV/TXT/XLS/XLSX/XML/GML/KML/RSS/ATOM/QVX/QVR/VCT/VDC/FBL/NVG/LMX/LST/LBL/BIN/CUE/SUB/DDF/OZF2/OZFx3/MAP/MOBI/PDF/EPS/AI/SVG/EMF/WMF/PPTX/PPT/KMZ/ZIP/RAR/TAR.GZ/TGZ/JAR
In summary, OkMap is an excellent tool for anyone who loves traveling or exploring new places using digital maps. Its ability to collect GPS data makes it stand out from other mapping software available in the market today. With its user-friendly interface and support for various file formats, OkMap is definitely worth considering if you're looking for a reliable mapping tool that offers advanced features at an affordable price point!
Review
OkMap takes raw map data and produces professional digital maps with points of interest, routes, and more. The app includes plenty of features, but the visuals are lacking.
Pros
Create a map from scratch: With OkMap and raw data, you can create a full-featured digital map with different views, points of interest, routes, etc. This software is really an all-in-one solution when it comes to digital map creation.
Google Maps integration: A great feature is the ability to import vector data from Google Maps right into the product and use it as a baseline. While the import takes a few steps, it is by no means difficult or cumbersome.
Support for GPS devices: If you happen to have a standalone GPS receiver, you can connect it to your PC via laptop to import GPS data as well as see your location in real time. Unfortunately, you will most likely not be able to connect your smartphone to the software and use the phone's GPS; at least we failed when we tested it with an iPhone.
Cons
Outdated design: As you look at the software's toolbar, you'll be taken back to the days of Microsoft Office 2003 and Windows 2000. While the functionality is there, the interface needs a major overhaul.
Steep learning curve: The software is complex. If you're serious about creating your own maps, you should set aside a weekend to get to know all the functions it has to offer.
Bottom Line
Have you ever wanted to create your own version of Google Maps? If yes, OkMap might be just what you're looking for. Its impressive array of features cannot be beaten. But if you're just looking for a navigation app for your Windows machine, this software will most certainly be overkill.
