Alcohol 120 2.0.3.9326
Description
Alcohol 120% is a powerful software that falls under the category of MP3 & Audio Software. It is designed to handle the creation of virtual CD and DVD-ROMs, allowing users to play discs without needing the physical disc. This software has been around for quite some time and has gained a reputation as one of the best virtual drive emulators on the market.
With Alcohol 120%, users can create up to 31 virtual CD and DVD-ROMs, which means they can have access to their favorite games, music, or movies without having to insert a physical disc into their computer's optical drive. This feature alone makes it an essential tool for anyone who wants quick access to their media collection.
One of the most significant advantages of Alcohol 120% is its ability to copy CDs and DVDs onto various types of discs such as CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD-RAM, and DVD+RW. This feature comes in handy when you want to make backup copies of your favorite media or share them with friends.
The reading speed of a virtual CD-ROM created by Alcohol 120% is impressive at 200x. This means that users can enjoy fast loading times when playing games or watching movies from their virtual drives.
Another great feature that sets Alcohol 120% apart from other similar software is its support for normal CD/DVD reading methods as well as RAW sub channel reading methods. The RAW method allows users to emulate all CDs regardless of whether they are protected or not.
Alcohol 120% supports numerous formats such as CD-DA (audio), CD+G (karaoke), CD-ROM (data), VideoCD (VCD), PhotoCD (PCD) for CDs; while supporting formats like DVD-ROM (data), DVD-Video (movies), and even audio DVDs like DVD-Audio for DVDs. Additionally, it supports all current ATAPI & SCSI drives making it compatible with almost any computer system out there.
The latest version adds two more profiles - SPTD v2.x & SPTI interfaces -to data type options which further enhances its compatibility with different systems while also including support for unusually formatted DVDs formatted by other software.
In conclusion, if you're looking for reliable software that can handle your media needs efficiently while also providing excellent features such as creating virtual drives and copying CDs/DVDs onto various types of discs then look no further than Alcohol 120%. Its ease-of-use coupled with its extensive list of features makes it an excellent choice for anyone who wants quick access to their media collection without having multiple physical disks lying around taking up space on your desk!
Review
Alcohol 120% rips and burns backup copies of your valuable discs and also creates and plays 31 different virtual discs: everything from Audio CDs to DVDs, with blazing access speeds. It records audio and converts data, too. Alcohol 120% is free to try for 15 days, though the trial version is limited to six virtual drives instead of 31, and to burning with only two drives, simultaneously. Alcohol 120% is compatible with Windows XP to 7, with a separate download for Windows 98/Me. You'll need an optical disc drive to use Alcohol 120%, too, though you'll only need a disc burner if you plan to burn discs.
We chose the Advanced option instead of the "recommended" Standard installation when installing Alcohol 120% and were glad we did since the installation wizard tries to install some "extra" programs. Freeware often comes with optional downloads (someone has to pay the bill!) but Alcohol 120% isn't freeware, nor is it particularly cheap, even for a good disc burner, so we were a bit dismayed not only to see extra toolbars and coupon apps but what would have been a rather large number of them even in freeware. But Alcohol 120% also offers a good amount of support, including a manual. Its user interface is easy to understand, with a spare but familiar look. The program started by asking permission to scan our system to obtain information about our DVD burner and any virtual discs we had. While its speed will depend on your system's resources, Alcohol 120% certainly worked quickly.
A good disc burning utility isn't hard to come by, and we'd probably have a hard time justifying Alcohol 120%'s cost if that were its only trick. But combine it with a terabyte drive, and you've got a powerful disc archiving tool that lets you play your CDs, DVDs, and games over and over without scratching them on the tray.
Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of Alcohol 120% 2.0.2.4713.
