Celestial Navigation Data Calculator for Windows 10 is a powerful software tool designed to help travelers and navigators calculate and display important positional data for celestial bodies. This app is perfect for anyone who needs accurate information about the position of stars, planets, the sun, and the moon while traveling or navigating at sea.
With this app, you can easily calculate and display Greenwich hour angle, declination, height computed and azimuth of the 57 navigational stars as listed in the Nautical Almanac. Additionally, full data is shown for Polaris and the GHA of Aries. The software also calculates corrections such as refraction, apparent semidiameter, parallax, and their sum to aid in correcting sights taken by a sextant.
The Celestial Navigation Data Calculator allows you to enter an arbitrary assumed position on earth as latitude and longitude in units of degrees, arcminutes and tenth of arcminute. All positional data is displayed as degrees, arcminutes, and tenth of arcminutes. The app displays data except for Aries if the respective body is above the horizon regardless of its usability for observation.
This software package uses NOVAS C3.1 from U.S Naval Observatory to perform calculations based on Bright Star Catalogue 2017 & Jet Propulsion Laboratory's DE241 development ephemeris.
One unique feature that sets this app apart from others in its category is that it does not require an internet connection or usage of your position data; it simply calculates what you need without any additional features or distractions like advertising.
It's important to note that there are no guarantees regarding any displayed information or how well this software works overall; therefore it should not be used as a source for navigation purposes.
Updates are not automatic since this app does not talk to Microsoft Store; users must proactively check at Microsoft Store when updates become available. This first edition release (1.1.0.11) fixes minor bugs causing rare crashes while updating descriptions with more releases planned before autumn 2017 which will include all ~170 stars listed in almanac besides "57 navigational stars" along with star charts which will take longer time than expected but worth waiting!
