Description
DesktopSnowOK is a lightweight portable Windows program for fun, showing snowflakes of different style at your desktop. It does not have to be installed and can be executed from the desktop easily. It features low CPU usage, adjustable speed, several flakes textures (bitmaps), optional alpha transparency, and optional deactivation by mouse movement or keyboard input, optional translation feature, portable, and multilingual.

We admit that we did not have particularly high hopes for DesktopSnowOK. This type of desktop enhancement typically leaves us annoyed and frustrated as we end up sacrificing system performance for special effects that aren't that special. But unlike most programs of this sort, we actually found DesktopSnowOK to be pretty impressive. It's not the kind of program that we'd usually use, but people who like the idea of having snowflakes or other objects blowing around on their screen will likely find it quite fun.
DesktopSnowOK is highly customizable, which is what makes it so enjoyable to play around with. It comes with a variety of snowflake designs as well as balls, flowers, stars, and other objects. Users can set the number of snowflakes (or whatever) to anywhere from 5 to 64, adjust the transparency from 0 to 50 percent, and set the speed on a scale of 2 to 40. The type of motion is also adjustable, with options for falling or blowing, and users can set whether mouse or keyboard activity will deactivate the program and if so, for how long. The quality of the graphics was good, and overall we thought that DesktopSnowOK added a fun touch to our desktop. There's no Help file, but the program is straightforward enough to get away without having one.
